Addressing Land Rights and Corporate Accountability in the ‘Re-start’ of Tourism

Tourism is at a standstill, isn't it? While leisure and business mobility are reduced dramatically and workers in tourism are suffering, the development of new tourism infrastructure has not paused. On the contrary, in the name of COVID recovery, governments and investors are speeding up the ‘re-start’ of already contested plans for tourism development. The often used term “building back better” is dangerous lip service, as the public recovery programmes are consistently supporting an old, extractive and carbon-intensive tourism model. This is instead of boosting the necessary transformation of tourism.
