Informal Work in Tourism

Workers in the informal economy are a crucial element of tourism everywhere -they make up a majority of tourism employment. People in the informal economy were hit first and hardest by the impacts of COVID-19. Their vulnerability and poverty increased during the pandemic. At the same time the informality also inside the formal Tourism sector increases and new business models entered the tourism market that decreases the level of social protection for workers.
1st Seminar - Informal female work
In the first seminar we will take a gender persepctive on informal employment, as the majority of workers in the informal sector are women, we will take a gender perspective in the first seminar.

2nd Seminar: Self-organization and informal work
This second seminar on the 6th of May will focus on how informal workers organize themselves in the informal sector. The seminar will be in a round table format in order to encourage discussion between the panelists and the audience to find common ground and compare experiences.
Please join the event and get inspired to take action in your sphere of influence. While global in scope, this online seminar will enable learning and exchanges beyond borders.
